Sarah's Sourdough Co. — the iOS app and this website.

The short version

We don't collect anything. The app runs entirely on your device. We don't have servers, accounts, analytics, advertising trackers, or any third-party SDKs that would phone home about you.

What data the app stores

Everything you create — starters, feedings, bakes, photos, recipes, notes, ratings, tags — is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData and Core Data frameworks. None of it leaves your device unless you explicitly do one of the following:

  1. 1

Turn on iCloud Backup(Settings → iCloud Backup). When enabled, the app uses Apple's CloudKit to sync your data between your own Apple devices. This data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple, stored in your private iCloud database, and is never visible to us. We do not have a CloudKit Public Database, so nothing you create is ever shared with us or other users through iCloud.

  2. 2

Share a recipe or bake (Recipes → Share recipe / Bakes → Share bake). The app generates a .sourdoughrecipe or .sourdoughbake file containing that single recipe or bake (with its photos, if any) and hands it to the iOS share sheet. You — not the app — choose where it goes: AirDrop, iMessage, email, Files. The file goes directly from your device to the recipient; it never passes through any server we control.

What data we collect on our end

None. We do not run analytics. We do not use crash reporting services. We do not embed advertising SDKs. We do not maintain a user database. We do not have user accounts. We do not have email addresses, names, or device identifiers tied to who uses the app.

The only mechanism by which we know how many copies of the app exist is the aggregate App Store sales report Apple shows us inside App Store Connect. That report contains no personal information about you.

Permissions the app asks for

When you first use a feature that needs it, iOS will prompt you for permission:

  • Camera— required to scan a printed recipe with your camera, or photograph a finished bake. Camera input is processed entirely on your device using Apple's Vision framework. No image data is sent anywhere.
  • Photo Library — required to pick a photo of a recipe for OCR, or to attach photos to a logged bake. We read only the photos you select.
  • Notifications — local notifications fired by your device for feeding reminders, peak-prediction alerts, and bake-step timers. We do not use push notifications; nothing about your starter or schedule reaches a remote server.

You can revoke any of these permissions at any time in iOS Settings → Sarah's Sourdough Co.

In-App Purchases

Sarah's Sourdough Co. uses Apple's StoreKit for the one-time $9.99 lifetime unlock. Purchase and entitlement information is handled by Apple. We receive aggregate transaction reports from Apple that do not identify individual buyers.

Children's privacy

The app is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect any data from children — because we do not collect data from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change how the app handles data, we will update this page and bump the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be announced in the app's release notes.
